Privatization: Panacea for unemployment– Imoke

The Governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke has described privatization as an authentic means of employment generation and wealth creation.

The Governor made the assertion at a ceremony for the signing of agreement between the state government and Wilmar International for the privatisation of Calaro Oil Palm Estate.

He cited the privatization of public enterprises in Cross River State, which he described as successful, and prescribed it as a model for other states to emulate, as none of the industries which had been privatized has failed.

According to Governor Imoke, Wilmar International, which has taken over the management of the oil palm estate, has the resources and expertise to transform it.

He urged the host community to cooperate with all stakeholders.

Pledges

A community leader of the host community, Chief Celestine Awor, commended the effort of the state government in reviving the ailing oil palm estate and gave the assurance that the people would cooperate with the company to ensure the success of its investments in the area.

On his part, the Managing Director, Wilmar International, West Africa, Mr. Santosh Pillai pledged that the company would meet the expectations of the people by ensuring that the plantation is the best in Nigeria.
