Governor calls for post-election harmony

The Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has called on all winners of the Parliamentary elections in the state to ensure that political differences do not destabilize the harmony in the state after the elections.

The Governor said this while presenting the winners of the Parliamentary election in the state to the people.

Rejection of Sentiments

Lamido said that the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state was a rejection of sectional calls and manipulation of Northern sentiments and emotions, noting that it was a vote for national stability.

Governor Lamido urged the party members to celebrate the victory in an Islamic way by abhorring hooliganism or jeering at anybody.

In his words: “there must be no culture of hate. Before the PDP,ANPP,CPC,CAN and other political parties we had Jigawa as a state. We are all citizens of Jigawa. We are each other’s kith and kin. We have the same traditions and beliefs so we should not allow political differences destabilise the harmony in the state” the governor said.

Lamido said that it was the responsibility of all Nigerians to ensure that the elections are conducted in an orderly manner.

He urged Nigerians to be patient and tolerant and committed to giving Nigeria a free, fair and credible election. He expressed his wilingness to do anything for the sake of Nigeria to ensure that the elections are performed in the right manner.

Gender Equality

Mallam Lamido said that Jigawa state had a philosophy and political culture which does not believe in patronising any gender. “We Believe there is gender equality; we are gender blind. Any particular effort to create a kind of psychological division in form of patronising women further takes away their essence as women,” he said.

He said that in Jigawa state even though the women came out en-masse to vote during the elections, the absence of female candidate vying for elective position was not particularly on any gender issue.

The Governor noted that the state was committed to ensuring that women get 35 percent involvement in governance.

Mallam Lamido stressed that his Government was based on a human society, which includes men, women, children and the disabled, saying that the state has as a policy, the employment of women and the disabled.
