‘Oil subsidy removal and fuel importation embarrassing’ - Senate
Obiora Ani, Abuja
The senate says it is embarrassing that the Nigerian government is still talking about oil subsidy removal and importation of refined fuel in an oil producing and exporting country.
Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, said this while inaugurating the remaining eight Standing Committees at the National Assembly, Abuja.
Inaugurating the Committee on Petroleum Resources, Upstream, Senator Ekweremadu, urged the government to rehabilitate the refineries and build new ones to ensure that Nigeria stops the importation of refined fuel.
While inaugurating the committee on Local and Foreign Debts, the Deputy Senate President called for proper streamlining of loans so that they would be tied to development projects.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign and Local Debts, Senator Ehigie Uzamere, from Edo State, Southern Nigeria, said the committee would align with the Executive to review the country’s debt policy and redefine the debt strategy.
Other committees inaugurated included those of Works, Women Affairs and Youth Development as well as National population and Identity Card Management.
