The Nigerian Northern leaders, under the auspices of Arewa Consultative Forum in Nigeria, ACF has pledged their support for the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan and advocated peaceful resolution to the current security threat in the country.
After congratulating the President on his success in the April elections, the nineteen-man delegation led by General Jeremiah Useni, chairman of the ACF Board of Trustees, shared the concern of the President and government on the state of insecurity in the North and deplored the militancy and violations of the rule of law in the country.
Proactive measures
General Useni said as part of efforts to help find lasting solutions to the intolerance and religious extremism, the Arewa Consultative Forum planned to organise a conference on unity and peace later in the year to address ethno-religious divisions, poverty and related issues militating against the development of the country.
The Forum members who also met vice President Namadi Sambo called on the President to constructively engage all those who won and lost in the elections and start programmes that would assist young children roaming the streets .
Ensuring better elections
President Jonathan thanked the ACF for the role they had played collectively and individually for peace and stability in the country.
He expressed the confidence that the judiciary would handle cases arising from the elections properly.
The President said while the 2011 elections were not perfect, by 2015, the elections would be even better and litigations would reduce.
