Nigerians hold National Day of Prayer
Uche Iheanacho, Abuja
Nigerians on Thursday held a National Day of Prayer for peace and progress in the country.
The prayer session was put together as part of activities to celebrate Nigeria’s 51st Independence Anniversary come October 1.
The prayers, held simultaneously in all states and local government areas of the thirty-six states of the federation, were conducted by various religious leaders from both the Christian and Muslim faith.
Change of heart
The prayer focused on seeking God’s intervention in tackling the current wave of terrorism threatening to disrupt the peace of the nation.
Participants urged those perpetrating these acts to have a change of heart and allow Nigerians peace of mind.
Vice President Namadi Sambo and Information Minister Labaran Maku were among dignitaries who participated in the prayer.
An interdenominational worship was earlier organised on Sunday in preparation for the independence anniversary.
The service featured prayers for peace and stability, economic boom and unity of Nigeria.
