Nigerian government restates commitment to tackle terrorism
The Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan has reiterated the commitment of Government toward tackling terrorism in the country.
He said “The Federal Government will not rest on its oars until this act of terrorism is wiped out from the country.”
President Jonathan gave the assurance when he paid a condolence visit to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, in his palace in Kano on Sunday.
The President, who was accompanied by the National Security Adviser and the Minister of Defence, also said that the Nigerian Government would do everything possible to strengthen security in the entire country.
He said ”I want to assure His Royal Highness that the Federal Government will strengthen security in Kano and the entire country.”
According to him, the Nigerian Government will collaborate with the Kano State Government to assist the families of the injured and those who lost their lives in the Friday bomb blasts.
He advised Nigerians to expose suspicious characters by reporting them to security agencies for appropriate action.
Jonathan said:”as long as we continue to allow these people to stay with us, then they will continue to cause havoc in our midst.’’
Earlier, the Emir of Kano told Jonathan that the emirate would support any measure by the Nigerian Government to end such ugly incidents.
He said: “on our part, we shall continue to organise special prayers for God’s intervention as well as to bring to an end such ugly happenings in the country.’’
Appeal
Bayero however called on the Nigerian Government to deploy additional security agents to the state, especially the police, in view of the fact that the existing 8,000 policemen in the state were grossly inadequate.
