Nigerian Government to spend N5.326bn on schools


The Nigerian Government is to disburse the sum of N5.326 billion to 5,326 schools and communities across the country, under the 2011 Universal Basic Education (UBE) community-initiated self-help project.

Similarly, the Kwara State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, in northern Nigeria has approved the disbursement of N1.6 billion for the renovation of 244 blocks of classrooms, construction of administrative blocks and laboratories in secondary schools across the 16 local government areas of the state.

The Minister of State for Education, Mr Ezenwo Wike and Governor Ahmed, disclosed these in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, on Thursday, while speaking at the national kick-off of the 2011 UBE community-initiated self-help project implementation and disbursement of the first tranche support funds to 5,326 Schools and communities across the country.

Collaborations

The minister further disclosed that the Nigerian Government would collaborate with all education stakeholders in the country, particularly those at the grass roots, in the attainment of Education for All (EFA) and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.

According to him, the partnership became expedient; in order to correct all identified imbalances in our educational system, towards effecting necessary changes, with a view to making use of the available resources for effective basic education delivery.

The minister, who had earlier paid a visit on Governor Ahmed at the Government House, Ilorin, thanked the state government for its renewed interest in basic education delivery and support.
