| Nigerian FG, state to partner on peaceful coexistence
The Nigerian federal government has sought partnership with its state governments in mapping out appropriate strategies for public education on peace and security.
The Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku made it known in Abuja when he received Gov. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano state northern Nigeria, on a courtesy visit.
Campaign for peaceful co-existence
A statement by the Minister’s Press Secretary, Joseph Mutah, quoted Maku as saying that for peace to prevail in the country, all levels of government must come together and develop a synergy to enlighten the public on peaceful co-existence for socio-economic development.
He also said that Kano, being the economic and commercial hub of the North, had a crucial role to play in attaining lasting peace in the region.
Mr Maku appealed to the governor to deepen campaign for peaceful co-existence among his people.
“There is urgent need to strengthen the governance at all levels and revive collapsed values and moral to instil respect for elders and constituted authourity,” Maku said.
ICT tool for employment
Maku advised the governor to explore the potential of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as a tool for employment generation and public participation in governance.
He also noted that partnership from other tiers of government will complement the implementation of Transformation Agenda of the government for development across the country.
“Under a Federal System of Government, all tiers of government should collaborate to pursue common cause of development in order to make the desired impact in the lives of the people.” Maku stated
Public information organs
Earlier, the governor told the minister that his administration had strengthened public information organs in the state to adequately inform the people about government activities.
He said his administration had established a film institute with a permanent site in Kura Local Government Area of Kano state to further develop the capacity of citizens in film production.
Kwankwanso also said that his administration was liaising with the Informatics Institute in Singapore to establish a similar institution in Kano State.
