Nigeria to sustain human capacity development in the steel sector

The Nigerian government has reiterated its determination to sustain human capacity development for the growth of the nation's steel and allied industries.

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mr Musa Sada, said this while declaring open a one-day stakeholders’ workshop  of the National Metallurgical Training Institute, Onitsha, Anambra State in south east Nigeria.

Agenda

Sada noted that the forum would enable the stakeholders to be better informed on the activities of the institute in providing skilled manpower for the metallurgical and steel sector.

He also added that the forum would also create necessary awareness on the potential of Nigerians which investors from within and outside the country could harness with a view to creating wealth and generating employment.

The minister solicited the support of stakeholders for the sustenance of the institute and said that there was no way the steel industry could grow without adequately trained low and middle cadre technicians.

He disclosed that products of the institute had vital roles to play in the industrial development of the country, and then canvassed for more funds for the establishment.

In his remarks, the governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, represented by the Commissioner of Science and Technology, Aloysius Eguatu, said the state would continue to support the activities and programmes of the institute so as to create jobs, thereby reducing poverty in the state and the nation.

The Vice Chairman of the Nigerian House of Representatives Committee on Steel, Christo Ameke, said that the committee was ready to assist the institute in the area within its jurisdiction at the National Assembly to facilitate its operations.
