Nigeria, France partner on security
Nigeria and France are to partner on finding lasting solution to the security challenges facing the nation.
The French Ambassador to Nigeria, Jean Michel Dumond, said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Nigerian Senate President, Senator David Mark, at the National Assembly in Abuja.
Dumond expressed his country’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in the area of security.
He promised that France would partner Nigeria in the areas of peace keeping, security and stability of the West African region.
“The French Government is worried about the recent unrest in Nigeria and would therefore join forces to contribute her quota towards arresting the menace,” he said.
The French envoy however, praised the government and Nigerians for the successful conduct of the April 2011 general elections, saying the election has given President Goodluck Jonathan the needed legitimacy to transform the country in dire need of development.
Welcoming the French Ambassador to his office, the Senate President, David Mark expressed appreciation to France for their concern in Nigeria’s affairs, saying that “the support and cooperation is more than ever before needed to tackle the security challenges facing the nation.”
Senator Mark stated that Nigeria had laid a solid institutional structure to propagate and sustain democracy, pointing out that enough sacrifices had been made since 1999 to ensure that democracy endures.
He noted that in spite of the initial challenges; Nigeria had made modest progress in the quest to achieve sustainable democracy.
