Nigeria, Central African Republic to establish joint commission
Nigeria and Central African Republic (CAR) are to set up a joint commission to be known as the Nigeria-CAR Permanent Commission.
The decision was contained in a joint communiqué signed by Nigeria’s President, Goodluck Jonathan and President Francois Bozize of CAR at the end of bilateral talks between the two leaders at the State House, on Thursday in Abuja.
Strengthened ties
The communique said the two countries also signed an agreement to strengthen economic, technical, social, political, cultural and security cooperation.
“They agreed that the permanent commission to be established will implement the agreements,” it said.
The communique also noted that the two countries agreed to pay special attention to human resource development as well as exchange expertise in key sectors such as science, technology and energy.
Implementation
“Both countries also agreed to promote good governance, gender issues, human rights and environmental matters as well as cooperate in immigration, multilateral diplomacy and exchange of information.’’
The communique said the ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries were saddled with the responsibility of implementing the agreements.
It said that the agreements, which would remain in force for a period of five years, would be renewed automatically for another five-year period.
