Uche Aneke, Abuja
Nigeria and Benin Republic have agreed to work together to fight piracy within their borders.
President Boni Yayi of the Republic of Benin stated this while addressing reporters in Abuja after a brief meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan.
President Yayi observed that the economies of both countries have severely been threatened by Piracy to the extent that the two countries must work together to free their economies from the hands of the pirates and move quickly towards the eradication of poverty and creation of job opportunities for youths and women.
He solicited for the intervention of the ECOWAS and African Union in containing the activities of these pirates not only in Nigeria and Benin Republic but in countries of West and Central Africa and the entire Gulf of Guinea.
He said that president Jonathan and his wife would be honoured by his country’s highest University with an award of Dr of Laws as a mark of unity and strong bond between the two countries.
