Nigerian government resolute on oil sector deregulation

The Nigerian Minister of Petroleum, Mrs Dezani Madueke says the deregulation of the petroleum sector will commence as soon as government concludes discussions on the matter with the Nigerian labour Congress, the National Assembly and the relevant stake holders.

Deregulatory benefits

Madueke who stated this while fielding questions from State House Journalists in Perth, Australia said that at the conclusion of all unresolved issues concerning the deregulation, a certain major deregulatory benefit would be put on the table for the benefit of the Nigerian people.

She identified some of the benefits to include construction of major road works, major public maintenance works, urban mass transportation, schemes for skilled and unskilled youths health and education.

She said that government would not be involved in the management of these benefits but would set up a committee of highly respectable Nigerians to monitor the implementation and give advice.
