NDDC promises sustainable development in Niger Delta

Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) says the agency's board plans to collaborate with the state governors in the region to facilitate sustainable development of the area.

The Chairman of the board, Mr Tarilah Tebepah, gave this hint of his vision for the NDDC in an interview with reporters shortly after his arrival at the commission's corporate headquarters on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.

Logistical support

He said that the commission would not work in isolation, as all the tiers of government at the state level had major roles to play in the provision of logistical support for the commission.

He said the commission could only succeed if stakeholders provided the requisite support to facilitate rapid economic growth and sustainable development in the region.

He said: “Being an intervention agency, NDDC cannot achieve much without the support of governors and the people of the region''.

Poverty eradication

Tebepah pointed out that the NDDC board would soon embark on courtesy visits to state governors in the region with a view to developing strategies to eradicate poverty in the region.

He promised that the board would also work in harmony with the management and staff of the commission to fulfil its mandate.
