The Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa , Ambassador Mohammed Buba Marwa, has formally declared his intention to run for the office of Governor of the North Eastern state of Adamawa, on the platform of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Ambassador Marwa said at the colourful and well attended declaration ceremony in Yola, the state capital that he was out to run a ‘people-centred' government, with the aim of giving dedicated and committed service.

He declared that he planned to make a clear statement in public administration in Nigeria by demonstrating new levels of salutary service and delivery of democracy dividends.

Marwa announced his four-point agenda, covering education, health, social services and infrastructure development for the state.

Ambassador Marwa, a retired Brigadier General and former military administrator of Borno and Lagos states, has concurrent accreditation to the Kingdoms of Lesotho and Swaziland .

He was also a Permanent Representative of Nigeria at the United Nations in New York as well as Defence Advisor in Washington .

VON former Southern Africa correspondent Tony Ekata reports that Ambassador Marwa instituted the Nigerians in South Africa Achievement Awards and the South Africa-Nigeria Friendship Association – two initiatives that have gone a long way in addressing the negative perception of Nigerians in South Africa .

He is expected to resign his ambassadorial appointment to contest the PDP primaries and subsequently the gubernatorial election, if he is adopted as the party's candidate.
