Lagos Recruits More Teachers

Over 500 new teachers, who are specialists in five core subjects, are to join the La gos State Teaching Service Commission.

The Deputy Governor of Lagos state, Princess Adebisi Sosan said the five core subject areas are English, Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry.

According to her, the recruitment of the teachers is meant to improve the performance of students in those identified subject areas.

The deputy governor said that the measure became necessary following observations that the state was deficient in the number of teachers and competent hands for those subjects.

She said there would be training the newly employed teachers to run intensive coaching classes on weekends for students who will sit for the May/June examinations .

The Deputy Governor said that adequate funding have been provided for the effective implementation of the exercise in the 2011 budget.
