Kwara State Commissioner of Police shot dead

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr Chinwike Asadu, has been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Enugu State, Southern Nigeria.

The Commissioner was visiting his family when he was fatally attacked at about 10:00 pm local time, on Saturday.

Report says his Police orderly, Aloha Olaniyi and driver, Oliver Omeh who were with him at the time of the attack, sustained serious bullet wounds.

They are receiving treatment at the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Enugu.

The Nigerian Police Force has described Mr Asadu's death as a big tragedy and vowed to find those behind the attack.

He is the 27th Commissioner posted to the Kwara State Police Command. He is due to retire from active service in wo months' time.
