Jonathan names new Secretary to the government

President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria has approved the appointment of Senator Anyim Pius Anyim as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

A statement from the State House, Abuja says the new SGF will be sworn-in on Tuesday at the State House at 12 noon local time.

The statement said the president also approved the re-appointment of Gen. Andrew Azazi as the National Security Adviser.

In another development, the president officially dissolved the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and terminated the appointments of his aides and other political appointees.

Another statement by Aduwak on Monday said the dissolution of FEC and termination of the appointments of the aides were in accordance with their appointments letters.

The president thanked all the outgoing ministers, aides and other political appointees for their service to the nation.

He said Jonathan particularly lauded their patriotism and dedication and wished them God's blessings in their future endeavours.

Jonathan further called on them to always see themselves as partners in progress with the new administration, stating that the Nigerian government would from time to time draw from their repository of knowledge in steering the ship of state.

At the FEC valedictory meeting held with the ministers on Wednesday, Jonathan had directed them to  continue with their job until otherwise directed.
