Jonathan forwards State of Emergency Gazette to Senate

Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan has forwarded copies of the official Gazette of the State of Emergency on certain Local Government Areas of the country to the Senate for legislative action.
In a letter to the Senate through its President, Senator David Mark, the Nigerian President urged the Senate to consider and pass the proclamation as required by law.
Declaration features
Among the features of the declaration is the need for the President to issue directives on the running of the affected local governments, instruction or regulation as may be issued by the President from time to time.
It also included the closure of national borders contiguous to the affected local governments.
President Jonathan had late last year, declared a state of emergency in 15 local governments of four northern states of Niger, Borno, Adamawa, and Plateau where they had been spate of violent attacks by the Boko Haram sect since December 2010.
