Jonathan promises to lead Nigeria to a rosy future

Nigeria’s President, Goodluck Jonathan, says his administration is committed to leading the country to “a rosy future”.

Jonathan made this known on Saturday at the graduation of Course 33 participants at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos.

The President, represented by Vice President Namadi Sambo, noted that the country had gone through trying times, noting that in spite of the diversity in culture, language, religion and ethnicity majority of the people had resolved to live as one nation.

Peace and development

Jonathan said that the programmes and policies of his administration were geared toward peace and the development of the country and solicited for maximum cooperation to achieve the set goals.

According to him, the result of the April general elections is a proof of the administration’s resolve not to interfere with institutions of government in their assigned roles.

He said that the conduct of the elections by INEC produced what was acknowledged as one of the fairest, freest and most credible elections in the country.

“We are purposed to lead Nigeria to a better place than we met it,” he said.

“Nigeria will soon be ranked among one of the countries with greatest tourist attractions in the world," he said.
The President, however, condemned all acts of violence against the people, while assuring the management of NIPSS of support in its assigned role of using research as means for the development of the nation along peaceful lines.

The Acting Director-General of the Institute, Prof Tijani Bande, said that the 66 graduates were drawn from top level executives.

Mono product economy

Bande solicited for the approval of the theme of Course 34 for 2012, to be “Resource Diversification for Sustainable Economic Development in Nigeria”.

Bande decried Nigeria’s mono economy which depends solely on crude oil when other sources abound.

He said that the institution was being short funded and appealed to the Nigerian government to intervene to enable it meet its targets in the coming years.
