Jigawa's Lamido promises to restore trust in leadership

The re-elected Jigawa State governor says his administration will restore trust in leadership and governance, saying these have been missing in contemporary Nigeria.

Governor Sule Lamido in his inauguration speech said that for the past four years, his government had worked assiduously to address the various problems and needs of Jigawa state, achieving 90 percent portable water service. He noted that Jigawa state was cited as a model worthy of emulation by other states, in the last water conference held in Nigeria.

Upgrading education sector

Mallam Lamido said: “over the past four years we have been able to upgrade the educational system and also initiated a scholarship scheme for 100 best Secondary school students in the sciences every year to study in universities overseas.”

“Health-wise, we have developed an effective and impressive healthcare system with a bottom up approach from primary health care to the secondary and the tertiary and now offers free maternal services covering delivery and the child’s life up to the age of five. Also, in our effort to empower our people, we have constructed and reactivated and equipped six skills acquisition Centres to train the youths in various trades and services. All these are outcomes of our TALAKAWA SUMMIT and also in fulfillment of our commitment to ensuring that the people benefit form democratic dispensation,” he said.

He said that the government had tried to lead by example by working by the dictates through the summit instrument.

Patriotic zeal

“We have run an accountable government yearly and the accounts of our activities live in your mind; we have not failed to fulfill any electoral promises because we have never made any but have done everything within available means,” Lamido said.

“We have also rescued our youths and transformed them into decent, polite, respectful, honest and hardworking future leaders healthy in mind and body for that future”.

He noted that the government would continue to improve the lives of the citizens of the state, who he said gave the administration the mandate.

The swearing in of Governor Sule Lamido, who was a former Foreign Affairs Minister, was attended  by Alhaji Umar Saidu Isiaka Governor of Zandara in Niger republic, Former Foreign minister in Niger Aisha Mindadu ,the first  Military administrator of  the state Rasheed  Shekoni and various former Nigerian Ambassadors.
