International agencies to train ICPC officials

The fight against corruption in Nigeria received a boost on Tuesday in Abuja, when the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in the country got the support of international agencies for capacity building for senior members of the commission.

ICPC Strategic Planning Workshop

The programme, “ICPC Strategic Planning Workshop,” is being coordinated by the Justice For All (54A), managed by the British Council and supported by Department for International Development (UK) (DFID).

The programme, which will last for three days, has in attendance all the ICPC heads of departments, heads of state offices, and will focus on building the capacity, accountability and responsiveness of key policing justice and anti-corruption institutions.

It will also support the ICPC officers to work together alongside civil society and oversight institutions.

The programme will broaden the ICPC officers’ outlook for better service delivery at the federal, state and local levels in the country.

Purpose

The purpose of the workshop, among others, include the development of strategic plans for the ICPC, building consensus for the future of ICPC and development of effective institutional mechanisms that will lead to  implementation.

The coordinator of the programme, Mr Paul Beggan, emphasised that the workshop could only be meaningful if “the people most affected by proposed changes are ready, willing and able to make the operational and behavioural changes required to develop and implement the plan.”
