INEC guarantees access to election materials

Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it would ensure that election materials were made accessible for forensic inspection as might be ordered by any election tribunal.

The commission’s spokesperson, Mr Kayode Idowu, said this in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital in in an interview with reporters.

Observing due process

Idowu said INEC will, however, follow the process of the law in making the materials available for forensic inspection.

He said: INEC has always said its doors are open to vet the materials used in the conduct of the April general elections, but this must be done within the provisions of the law”.

He stressed that anyone seeking to have access to materials used during the elections should following the due legal process.

“The law has made it clear on how people can vet the materials and that must be adhered to,’’ Idowu said.

The INEC spokesman faulted reports alleging that INEC was denying access to materials used for the conduct of the April elections.
