Jonathan Harps On Unity Of Nigeria
Nigeria's President, Goodluck Jonathan has assured Nigerians of the government's commitment to unity and economic development.
The President disclosed this in Bida, Niger, on Tuesday, when he paid a courtesy visit to the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, at the start of a two-day campaign visit to Niger.
Jonathan stressed that no individual was bigger than Nigeria, saying that Nigerian's corporate interest will be the focal point of his administration.
“In spite of our diversity, our differences should be seen as a source of strength as a nation,” he noted.
Administration's focus
Jonathan also called on Nigerians to join hands with the government to make Nigeria a better place for all to live in.
He also noted that if elected in April, the administration would focus more on power generation and industrialisation to ensure job creation for the teeming population of the youth.
The President said the government would not discriminate against anyone, irrespective of the diverse tribal, religious and ethnic differences in the country.
Plans ahead
On state creation, Jonathan said the executive arm had no power to create states, saying that he would encourage the National Assembly to ensure that it considered the creation of additional states in the country.
Jonathan also noted that the government would map out a five-year strategic plan for road projects, if voted in come April.
At the campaign rally, the Niger Governor, Alhaji Babangida Aliyu, assured the president that the state would give him 100 per cent support during the election.
