Electorates expectations
Incoming governments at all levels have been urged by Nigerians to address the issue of epileptic power supply and unemployment in the country.
A cross section of Nigerians who spoke to reporters in Lagos, on Thursday, observed that addressing these problems would be pivotal to restoring Nigeria to the path of greatness.
Mr Tunde Ajibade, a student said that President Goodluck Jonathan should collaborate with state governors towards achieving the ongoing power sector reforms programme.
He said: "one of the reasons I am happy about his (Jonathan’s) re-election is that he can continue with the power sector reforms."
"I believe that once this is done, it will go a long way in tackling the issue of unemployment, which is of great concern to us as young people” he said.
Speaking in the same vein, Miss Uchenna Ayemale, a civil servant said the problem of insecurity across the country was directly linked to the lack of employment possibilities.
Ayemale told NAN that many qualified graduates were roaming the streets in frustration because of their inability to secure good jobs.
``Some of these persons, despite their educational backgrounds, may go into criminal activities to make ends meet and that is why the government must address this problem urgently,’’ she said.
Mr Moses Olatoye, a welder, said businesses would flourish if the problem of frequent power outage were resolved.
"We are managing for now because we only work when there is light and that is why we are appealing to the government to come to our aid,’’ Olatoye said.
Meanwhile, some of the elected governors have promised an inclusive government, while other promise to ensure that that the aspirations of the electorates were met.
Nasarawa Governor-elect, Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura, after being declared winner of the governorship election on Wednesday in Lafia, central Nigeria, said: "the incoming administration will be an all inclusive government. For those who believe in service, the time for change is now.”
INEC is on Thursday conducting gubernatorial and States' Assembly elections in Kaduna and Bauchi states.
