Political parties ureged to restore confidence in the Electoral System Hauwa Noroh Ali, Jigawa
The Governor of Jigawa State, Northern Nigeria, Mallam Sule Lamido, has called on political parties and their leaders to conduct themselves with decorum and integrity in order to restore confidence in the electoral system.
Governor Sule said this on Saturday, while on queue, waiting to exercise his voting right in the National Assembly election.
The Governor, who joined the Queue for an hour, said that it was time to clamour to get things done the right way stressing that there was a need to demystify the issue that Government officials were different from other Electorates
Leadership by example
In his words, “there is need to practice what you preach. I mean it is part of an effort ,we need to restore credibility in the institution in the way we conduct ourselves as political parties and also as Nigerians because we must go beyond clamouring but make it a part of our character”
He said that if Niger Republic can get it right then Nigeria can do the same
Malllam sule said that Nigeria has come to a point in time, when Nigerians must stand on practice and character noting that to ensure a free, fair and credible election, the leaders must follow the regulations.
Mallam Sule said that there was need for leaders to lead by example by obeying regulations, under law and order and that there was no better person to show that position but the leaders.
Women Participation
The wife of the Governor, Hajia Amina Lamido, after voting commended the women for coming out en-masse to exercise there civic duties.
She said that “ It is with a contented heart that I watch my sisters vote for what they think they want. They have been sensitised on how to prepare their homes so that they do not leave a vacuum during elections.
Despite the fact that there was no female candidate out of the 67 candidates vying for electoral positions, the population at the polling stations across Jigawa were predominantly women.
