Government to enhance media unions salary

The Nigerian Government has met in Abuja with members of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Radio Theatre Television and Workers Union (RATTAWU) to fine-tune the implementation of enhanced salary package for their members.
Minister of Information and Communications, Mr. Labran Maku said all negotiations had been successfully conclude with the National Income, Wages and Salaries Commission to ensure the take-off of the new salary structure.
Service Delivery
According to Mr. Maku, the stage has now been set for a periodic review of the welfare package for media workers to enhance effective service delivery.
The Minister challenged members of the NUJ to bring their experiences to bear and harness their potentials to improve the quality of service to the people.
He pledged to “work in consultation with the management of the Federal Ministry of Information and Communications to design a framework that would address some of the issues raised by the union particularly stagnation in service, poor welfare and the dearth of infrastructure.”
Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Federal Information Chapter, Mr. Joseph Ijeh said: “there is need for greater attention to be paid to the core professionals in the ministry to enhance their productivity”.
He also called for the appointment of professionals to head the Federal Ministry of Information as obtained in some ministries to ensure standard in the quality of service to the people.
