| Primary Schools Pupils To Get Free Books

The Nigerian government has approved a contract for printing and distribution of English Language, Mathematics and Science-Based Activity books to elementary class pupils in Nigerian Public Schools.
Addressing newsmen at the end of the Federal Executive Council Meeting, the Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akuyili stated that the contract was part of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGS) Textbooks Initiative by the Universal Basic Education Commission.
Professor Akuyili also estimated the contract sum at over 1.7 million Naira.
She said the initiative was to consolidate on the achievements made by the government in the provision of textbooks to public primary schools.
According to her, the textbook would be customised with the inscription: MDGS - UBEC TEXTBOOK INITIATIVE – 2010 - NOT FOR SALE.
