Pope Benedict XVI has urged Nigeria to take a decisive step to find solution to the lingering violence in Jos, Plateau State, North Central Nigeria.

The Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, Most Reverend Augustine Kasujja, relayed the Pope's message when he visited the Nigerian Senate President, David Mark, at the National Assembly, Abuja.

Pope Benedict XVI said the development in Jos has become worrisome and appealed to Nigerian authorities to find a lasting solution to the crisis.

He also asked Nigeria to consider sending an envoy to the Vatican as according to him, Nigeria is too big not to have an Ambassador in the Vatican.

Nigeria's Senate President, David Mark, promised that Nigeria would consider deploying an Ambassador to the Vatican City, Rome, as that would facilitate and improve the bilateral relationship between Nigeria and the Vatican.

Senator Mark said that President Goodluck Jonathan is doing everything possible to end the crisis in Jos.

At the moment, Nigeria's Ambassador to Spain oversees the affairs of the mission in the Vatican.
