Lagos state governor commits to state's transformation

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, has promised Lagosians that he will continue to dedicate his energy and time to the realization of the goal of transforming Lagos.

The Governor stated this at Onikan Stadium Lagos, while commemorating   1,400 days in office. He said that this transformation will cover all sectors, nooks and crannies of the state by tapping the potentials of the state.

These potentials according to him cover the huge population, diversity, tourism, the environment and natural resources.

He said that some of these potentials have propelled him to the achievement of success in key sectors of the economy in Lagos.

He listed some of the opportunities to include; massive investment in infrastructural facilities such as light, rail systems, roads, mini water works, health centers, provision of 17 skills acquisition centres and creating a conducive business environment.  

Specifically, some the  completed projects and programmes of the last 100 days to include the 17th Skill Acquisition Centre at Mushin, three new mini waterworks providing 2 million gallons of water per day and Medical Missions to Oshodi, Epe and Somolu.

Others include the employment and deployment of 507 University graduates who now run special extension classes for final year students in public schools; the handing over of three new blocks of classrooms with laboratories and libraries and the flag off of the deployment of an innovative technology that will decongest the Falomo area to Nigerian Law School Intersection.

According to the Governor, the Igbo-Elesin road, has been completed, "’while progress is being made on the road works in Idimu, Egbeda, Igando and Ipaja Areas of Lagos, as well as the Lagos Badagry Expressway, the Eti Osa Lekki-Epe Expressway, the Lagos Light Rail project where the construction of the pillars and the first stations at Orile, Alaba, Mile 2 are currently on-going’’.

He further stated that though the State government has boosted the operations of the ferry service by an addition of four (4) ferries, plans are afoot to boost it further. He said that the ferries will enable commuting between Ikorodu and Ebute Ero to take place in 17 minutes.

On this platform, Governor Fasola seek the support of the people for re-election in the April election  to enhance the transformation of Lagos state.

In his words “I offer myself for further service; I thank you profoundly for the honour you have done to me by giving me the opportunity to serve Lagos and my country. It is the greatest honour any country can bestow on a citizen’’.

Fashola urged the people to continue to embrace peace and respect each other’s diversity, as he attributed his administration’s success to the prevailing peace in the state .

The Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mrs. Oluranti Odutola declared that the administration has changed the landscape of Lagos State in all spheres of developmental programmes.

She urged Lagos residents to continue to support the administration towards more effective service delivery.

Over 50 groups took part in the parade held to commemorate the occasion. They include such groups as the Neighbourhood Watch, KAI Brigade, Climate Change Club, Boys brigade, Boys Scouts and workers from various segment of the economy.
