| Nigeria And Brazil Launch Energy Cooperation
A Joint Nigeria-Brazil Energy Cooperation Working Group has been inaugurated to fast track the development of key oil and gas sectors, including bio-fuel and power generation.
Speaking at the launching in Abuja, Nigeria's Vice President Namadi Sambo said the government was seeking ways to accelerate the nation's hydro potential development and that such cooperation with Brazil, which had comparative advantage in renewable energy, hydro power generation and deep water exploration, was welcomed.
Partnership to develop key sectors
Vice President Sambo said the partnership between Nigeria and Brazil would help develop the key sectors, for improved infrastructure necessary for the attainment of vision 20-2020.
Brazil is partnering with Nigeria towards completing the Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro Power plants. This has been incorporated into the bilateral agreement, providing for Brazil to bankroll the projects on a turnkey basis.
The three main areas of cooperation include oil and gas including bio-fuels, power and capacity building.
The Vice President called for proper coordination to make the bilateral agreements work. He said mistakes of the past, including delays, should be avoided and expressed the need for a technical team to travel to Brazil to concretise the plans.
