Nigerian Wins UK Electronics Institute Award
A Nigerian has won the Year 2010 Graduate award of the Institute of Electrical Electronics Engineers (IEEE) of the United Kingdom .
Abdelghaffar Abdelmalik, a PhD student of the University of Leicester is a lecturer in the Department of Physics, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria , northern Nigeria .
Adelmalik won the award with his doctoral project titled, '' The Effect of Side Chains on the Dialectric Characteristics of Palm Kernel Oil-based Fluid'.
The project also won a grant for the university's Department of Engineering.
The Institute of Electrical Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Dialectical Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS) award, forms part of the world's largest professional association's support for the advancement of technology.
It supports graduates and their innovative research efforts.
Abdelmalik said the award would spur him to continue to contribute to the engineering profession, to better his country and the world at large.
He described as commendable, the impact being made in the area of solar energy to reduce dependence on petroleum.
He expressed the hope that by the time the potential of palm kernel oil-based research was completed, the world would heave a big sigh of relief.
According to him, the research, if successful, will also boost the economies of countries blessed with oil palm plantations, including Nigeria .
