At least fifteen people have been arrested in possession of electoral materials forcefully snatched from officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Nasarawa State, Central Nigeria.

Nasarawa State Police Commissioner, Mr. Emmanuel Obiakor, who confirmed the arrests, said that they were carried out in different locations across the state.

He said that the arrests were possible following a tip-off.

The items made up of ballot papers, ballot boxes and result sheets when recovered by the Police, had already been thumb printed and filled to capacity.

Some polling officials who failed to supply voting materials at the designated points up as at 2. p.m., local time, have also been arrested.

Police sources have also confirmed that government agents and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the state have maintained an intensive pressure to protect the identity of sponsors of the electoral offenders.

Key government officials including a serving Commissioner had already appeared before security operatives in the state for interrogation.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party and the state government are yet to react to the development.
