The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lafai the Nasarawa state Capital in central Nigeria has upheld the election of Governor Umaru Tank Al-makura of Nasarawa state.
In a four-hour judgment delivered Saturday, Justice Chukwuemeka Obieze held that the petitioners failed to prove that the respondent did not win in the April 2011 polls and accordingly dismissed the petition.
Correspondent report says the judgment was delivered amidst tight security.
It would be recalled that former Governor, Aliyu Akwe Doma, now standing trial before a Lafia based Federal High Court over criminal allegations bordering on theft of Nasarawa state funds, had joined with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a petition to challenge the declaration of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of the Congress for Political Change political party as the duly elected governor of Nasarawa State in the April 2011 polls.
