| Economic activities to improve in East-west Nigeria
Uche Aneke, Abuja
Economic activities are set to improve in the East-west region of Nigeria with the approval of the dualisation of the East-west road.
The project, which is said to be a land mark intervention of the Nigerian government on infrastructure development in the Niger Delta Region, will gulp a total of 245 billion Naira (about 1.6 billion dollars).
The amount was approved on Wednesday, at the Federal Executive Council meeting held in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
Addressing reporters at the end of the Federal Executive Council Meeting, the Nigerian Minister of Information, Mr. labaran Maku, stated that the approval became necessary to adequately complete the roads which by their location in the oil industry zone were an emerging heavy trafficked roads in the country.
He pointed out that there was need for a stable road pavement that was less prone to frequent failure and disruption of traffic flow.
He said that as a result of the increase in the scope of works involved on the roads, additional jobs would be created in line with President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda.
