Commission To Revoke Commercial Driver's Licences
The Federal Road Safety Commission in Nigeria (FRSC) says it will revoke the current driver's licence issued to commercial drivers and re-certify them.
Corps Marshal of the Corps, Mr. Osita Chidoka, said most of the commercial drivers were unruly in their driving habits on the highways.
He said that the Corps investigation has shown that some of the drivers were without a good knowledge of road traffic regulations, a factor that has been responsible for high number of road crashes.
Mr. Chidoka said stringent measures, including alcoholic, drug and eye test, among others, would be introduced to ensure that only those qualified and fit to drive were issued with licences to drive on Nigerian roads.
He said he was worried that in spite of the intensive road safety campaigns and sensitisation embarked upon by the Corps; about 545 people were killed in road crashes between December and early January, 2011.
