Nigeria Donates   10,000 Tonnes of Sorghum To Niger R epublic

The Nigerian Government has donated ten thousand tonnes of sorghum to Niger republic, to cushion the effect of the food and nutrition crisis.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Professor Sheik Ahmed Abdullah presented the consignment to his Nigerien counterpart, Mallam Malic Sadelher.

He said the gesture was the outcome of the recent ECOWAS Ministerial Meeting in Lome where the Ministers agreed to tackle food crisis in the West African region.

Professor Abdullah said the exercise, which started six months ago, was in furtherance of the relationship between Nigeria and Niger, noting that both countries shared many things in common.

He conveyed the greetings of President Goodluck Jonathan to the government and people of Niger now that both countries were gearing towards another election.

Commendation

On his part, Sadelher commended the federal and state governments as well as Nigerians for their early response and show of concern to the country's needs.
