Dethroned Obong of Calabar: Palace appeals for calm
Udoh Etefia, Calabar
The Palace of the traditional ruler of Calabar in Cross River State, the Obong of Calabar has appealed to the people to remain calm following the judgment of the High Court which dethroned the traditional ruler.
The appeal was made by the Chairman of the Etubums’ Traditional Council, Mr. Bassey Duke while addressing newsmen on the court ruling which he described as disturbing and unsettling.
He said the council was awaiting the full text of the judgment before deciding on the appropriate course of action.
Mr. Duke however expressed the council’s belief in the rule of law right to fair hearing and due process, noting that Calabar was the host of the first Supreme and Appeal courts in Nigeria.
It would be recalled that Justice Obojor Ogar of the Calabar High Court on Monday restrained Edidem Ekpo Abasi-Otu from presenting himself as the Obong of Calabar until a proper election has been done.
