Delta Re-Run Election: INEC Declares PDP Winner

Emmanuel Uduaghan of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has been declared winner of the Delta state governorship re-run election, held on Thursday.

Nigeria 's Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC announced that Uduaghan of PDP, led the race with a total of 214, 132 votes and had won in 14 local government areas.

His major opponent, Democratic Peoples Party's flag bearer, Great Ogboru, won in 11 local government areas with  123, 941 votes.

Delta has 25 local government areas.

As the results were announced, supporters of governorship candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party, protested against the preliminary results so far released by INEC.

The protesters, who besieged the INEC office in the state capital, Asaba, alleged that the exercise was rigged by the ruling PDP and that the results being released were unacceptable.

The DPP supporters could, however, not gain access into the commission's premises due to the heavy presence of policemen and soldiers and no official attended to them.
