Customs arrest importers of military uniforms and bullet-proof vests

The Nigeria Custom Service in Kano has apprehended two persons who imported a heavy load of military uniforms and bullet-proof vests into the country.
 
The Kano Customs area controller, Alhaji Usman Sanusi Azare, who made this known to journalists while displaying the seized items at the Mallam Aminu Kano international Airport, said that the arrest carried out by the Nigeria Custom was one of those breakthroughs of the security in stopping illegal arms and ammunition from coming into Nigeria.

He disclosed that the military wares were smuggled into the country via a flight with No; 0573 from Beirut which touched down at Mallam Aminu Kano Airport at about 12.45 hours local time, on Wednesday.
 
The uniforms were smartly concealed in eight cartons which contained 22 pairs apiece, totalling 190 pieces in all, aside from the bullet proof vest that are of lesser quantity.

Fighting illegal arms

Azare promised that his men would jointly, with other security operatives ensure that no illegal arms or military wares are allowed into the country.

The suspects, Imam and Bashir, detained and questioned by security personnel said that the goods came in from Egypt, through an Egypt airline at 22.30 hours local time.

The Kano Custom Area controller wondered on the motive behind the importation of Army uniforms by individuals at the crucial election time
