Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta Affairs and Chairman Presidential Amnesty Committee, Mr Kinsley Kuku has commended Cross River State for playing host to the post amnesty rehabilitation training programme for ex-militants from the Niger Delta.
Mr Kuku who made the commendation when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State in Calabar, said so far, twenty thousand one hundred and ninety two ex-militants have graduated from the first phase while over six thousand will undergo training in the second phase of the programme.
Appreciation
He expressed the gratitude of the Presidency to the people of Cross River State, especially the Obubra people for being a good host to the programme which he said was earlier rejected by other states.
Responding, Governor Liyel Imoke said the success of the amnesty programme had erased the impact of militancy in the Niger Delta, adding that the level of economic growth and development in the area is unquantifiable.
Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of an appreciation letter from the Presidency and plaque of proclamation for peace in Niger Delta to Governor Imoke.
