An appeal has gone to the organized private sectors in Nigeria to intensify their partnership with governments at all levels to improve the security situation in the country since business can only thrive in a peaceful environment where there is adequate protection for lives and properties.

The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire made the appeal at the public presentation of new ‘Peak Plus’, a diary product from one of Nigeria’s leading industries, Frieslandcampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc.

Enhancing security system

A statement from the Special Assistant on Media to the Deputy Governor, noted that the provision of adequate security remains one of the cardinal points of the Fashola administration.

The statement added that over the years, the government has invested heavily in equipping the police force and providing other social amenities to guarantee the safety of residents of the commercial city.

“Our government is aware that sustainable infrastructural development and good security system are critical to the growth of businesses. While we continue to make huge investment on security, roads, transportation, power supply, education, water, a healthy and beautiful environment so that we can continue to provide an enabling environment that will encourage more investments, boost economic activities and accelerate economic growth in the state, we request for the support and collaboration of all stakeholders in achieving all of these”, she said.

In calling for greater collaboration between the governments and corporate organizations, the Deputy Governor said the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, which was a private-public initiative of the state government, was one of the measures taken to strengthen security agencies and ensure that lives and properties are protected at all times.

Fighting flood

The Managing Director of Frieslandcampina WAMCO Nigeria and West Africa, Mr Bob Stalker, commended the state government in fighting the menace of flooding in the State.

He noted that the prompt intervention of the state government during the July 10, 2011 flooding in Lagos assisted the company in resuming full production after a brief stoppage due to the flooding of their premises.
