Nigeria Commits 3.2 Billion Naira To Kano Power Project

The Nigerian government has committed over 3.2 billion Naira to the Independent Power Project in the northern state of Kano, as part of its effort to transform the power sector and rejuvenate the economy.

President Goodluck Jonathan stated this on Wednesday at a presidential campaign rally of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), in Sokoto State, Northern Nigeria.

Jonathan reiterated his administration's commitment to reforming the power sector, saying that “without power we cannot stimulate the development of small-scale industries across the country.

Boosting agriculture

He said that the government would ensure the rehabilitation of the abandoned Shagari irrigation project.

The president noted that without adequate water management the government would not be able to achieve the desired agricultural revolution in the country.

Jonathan said that the Federal Government was committed to adding value to the nation's agricultural sector.

“Value must be added to the activities of the farmers in Nigeria,” he said.

Reforming other relevant sectors

The president declared that the administration would also reform the down-stream sector of the petroleum sector and as well ensure that the youths get more meaningful job opportunities.

The Governor of Sokoto state, Aliyu Wamakko, described Jonathan as a sincere person who ``fears God in whatever he does''.

The governor expressed his State's readiness to elect all PDP candidates at all levels during the forthcoming polls from the President to councillors.

Wamakko expressed the people's appreciation for Jonathan's efforts to transform all the sectors of the economy.
