Venezuela Commends Nigeria's Preparation For Election
The Venezuelan Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Enrique Arundell, has commended Nigeria's preparation for the forthcoming general elections.
The envoy made the commendation on Wednesday in Abuja when he paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Information and Communications, Mr Labaran Maku.
Satisfactory organisation
He expressed satisfaction with the level of organisation and voter enthusiasm in the build up to the election.
“We have been observing the efforts of INEC and the Nigerian government to have free, fair and credible elections. This is the first time we are having such a turnout,'' he said.
He said that a credible election would deepen democracy and accelerate the development of Nigeria's economy.
Exploring information technology
Arundell pledged Venezuela's support for the development of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector in Nigeria and added that both countries were exploring ways of sharing information and experience in television and radio broadcasting.
Maku described the relationship between both countries as cordial and with a lot of prospects.
Strengthening ties
He stressed the need to strengthen the relationship between both countries, noting that Nigeria and Venezuela face similar challenges.
“We are also members of OPEC, UN and other organisations and that is why we must continue to strengthen our relationship,'' he said.
