Senate Commences Review Of Minimum Wage Obiora Ani, Abuja
The journey for the enactment of a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers begun in the Senate on Wednesday with the first reading of the National Minimum Wage Act 2000 Amendment Bill 2011.
The Nigerian Council of State, the highest decision making body, had late last year approved the review of the minimum wage and mandated the Executive to forward a bill to that effect.
The Senate, also on Wednesday, received letters from the Executive for the confirmation of 25 career Ambassadorial nominees, two members for appointment into the governing Board of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.
The House approved the appointment of a member of the National assembly Service Commission and the 2011 budget proposal of the Nigerian Communications Commission.
The lawmakers have adjourned plenary till next week Tuesday, to enable members undertake ongoing political activities in their constituencies.
