Expert Suggests Local Technology To Tackle Climate Change

The Nigerian government has been advised to develop and deploy local technology in the fight against climate change.

The Head, Special Climate Change Unit in the Ministry of Environment, Dr. Victor Fodeke gave the suggestion in an interview in Abuja.

Dr. Fodeke called on the government to look inward and not rely on the assistance of developed countries to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.

In his words, ''n ow is the time to sensitise the people on what to do before the disaster being witnessed in some parts of the globe this year due to climate change catches up with us.''

Fodeke said that the green economy, which includes tree planting, would help to mitigate the impact of climate change as well as boost the economic empowerment of the people.
