Nigeria To Evacuate Citizens From Troubled Middle East Countries

President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the immediate evacuation of Nigerians from the troubled Middle East countries.
The Minister of Information and Communications, Mr. Labaran Maku said this while briefing newsmen alongside Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odein Ajumogobia after a meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo.
Nigeria deplores violent on protesters Mr. Maku stated that the Nigerian government also deplored what it called disproportionate use of force to disperse protesters in the Middle East.
The Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Odein Ajumogobia noted that there was need for the crisis to be resolved through dialogue in those Middle East countries.
He however, stressed that the countries were all sovereign countries and Nigeria cannot dictate to them how they should govern their countries.
The Minister said that the situation in the Middle East countries as it affects Nigerians was being monitored closely by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has been in close contact with Nigerian envoys in those countries.
Evacuation of passengers
Ajumogobia also stated that President Jonathan has specifically directed that stranded passengers in Tripoli and Bengazi who are Nigerians should be evacuated.
He said that steps are being taken to evacuate Nigerians to their respective homes.
The Minister assured that the President was committed to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians, saying that whatever measures necessary including evacuating Of Nigerians, if the need arises, would be taken to ensure their safety and security.
