Buhari vows not to challenge election result in court
The presidential candidate of CPC, General Muhammadu Buhari, (Rtd) has commended Saturday’s presidential election, and restated his decision not to challenge the result in the court if he failed.
Buhari made the commendation on Saturday in Daura, Katsina State, north western Nigeria, while speaking with journalists shortly after casting his vote at Sarkin Yara ‘A’ polling unit.
“I have already said that this time around I will not go to court but my party may decide to go to court”, he said. He also commended INEC for addressing most of the lapses experienced in National Assembly’s election.
Alleged illegal conduct
He however lamented that there were still reported cases of alleged illegal thumb-printing of ballot papers in some places across the country.
He said: “In most of the places voting is going on smoothly, but there are still problems of nocturnal movement last night to the early hours of today with airplanes carrying ballot papers to some of the states where they are being thump-printed in several places.'’
Buhari urged the police to make a categorical statement on the recent interception of some ballot papers in Abuja meant for the presidential election.
Other commendations
Also former military President, Ibrahim Babangida also lauded INEC for the smooth conduct of the ongoing general elections. “So far so good,” he said.
Babangida, who voted in Minna said that the process was coming up well. He said: “I ran anelection some 18 years ago and I can tell you whether it is good or not, I think so far so good.”
He commended Nigerians for their orderliness and cooperation, stressing that they took a lot of interest in discharging their civic responsibility.
Pruning political parties
Babangida advised that the number of existing political parties be pruned to five to ensure effective management and enduring democracy.
