Congress For Progressive Change Names Buhari As Presidential Candidate
A former Nigerian Head of State and presidential aspirant, Muhammadu Buhari has emerged as the flag bearer of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the 2011 elections.
Buhari's was endorsed by the CPC at its national convention, held in Abuja . The party's delegates ratified his choice as the party's presidential candidate in the April polls, through a voice vote.
Faruk Bunza, who presented Buhari to the delegates, as the only presidential aspirant, described the former military Head of State as the best candidate for the office.
Buhari in his acceptance speech said he was not in the race for himself but for Nigerians.
He said the party had resolved to defeat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the forthcoming general election and was ready to provide a better alternative government.
Buhari disclosed that alliance talks with other political parties were still on, adding that when concluded, the alliance would expand the party's support base, for a better footing to clinch victory in next elections.
The Congress for Progressive Change also used the forum to present the party's constitution, colour and logo to the public and to conduct election into 16 national executive offices.
