British drugs, firearms fugitive arrested in Nigeria

One of Britain's most wanted drug and firearm suspects, identified as Kindreck Dion Lee, has been arrested in Nigeria's commercial capital Lagos, an official statement said.

"The suspected fugitive Kindreck Dion Lee ... is wanted in the United Kingdom in connection with firearms and drugs offences," The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said in the statement.

His arrest on Tuesday by NDLEA agents followed an intense manhunt.

Suspect

At the time of his arrest the suspect was carrying a Nigerian passport bearing his photograph with the name Olusegun Babajide, the drug agency said.

The British and Nigerian authorities have been working closely to apprehend the 34-year-old suspect, it added.

Face criminal charges in Britain

The Lancashire police constabulary in northern England said the suspect, who is originally from the Lancaster area, is wanted for his alleged involvement in bringing cocaine, cannabis, firearms and ammunition into the country from Amsterdam, the statement said.

A European arrest warrant was granted in May 2008 because it was believed that the fugitive had links with the Netherlands.

The suspect, who hails from Lagos, is expected to be extradited soon to face criminal charges in Britain, NDLEA said.
